Permanent Lip Color

  • Time and convenience: Wake up with a ready-to-go tint that never smudges, fades while eating, or leaves marks on cups.
  • Shape and symmetry: Define a soft Cupid’s bow or slightly cheat the outer border to fix unevenness without invasive surgery.
  • Youthful color restoration: Add a rosy flush to pale, aging lips or neutralize dark hyperpigmentation.
  • Filler alternative illusion: Create the visual effect of a softer, fuller pout through shading rather than adding physical volume.

Lip Aftercare

Daily Healing Timeline

  • Day 1 (Immediate Care): Expect swelling, tenderness, and bright color. Gently blot fluid and apply a thin layer of healing balm after the first 4 hours.
  • Days 2–3: Lips feel tight, dry, and tingly as swelling subsides. Apply ointment frequently.
  • Days 4–7 (Peeling Phase): Flaking and light scabbing begin. The color will look faded or patchy before softening by 30% to 50%.
  • Days 8–30 (Blooming): The pigment settles, resurfaces, and blooms into the final shade around week 4 to 6.

What to Avoid

  • No picking or peeling: Let flakes and scabs shed naturally to prevent pigment loss and patchiness.
  • Food and drinks: Avoid hot, spicy, salty, or acidic foods for the first week. Drink through a straw.
  • Moisture and friction: Avoid kissing, swimming, saunas, heavy sweating, and direct water contact on the lips while showering for 5 to 7 days.
  • Makeup and skincare: Skip lip gloss, lipstick, chemical exfoliants, and anti-aging acids/retinoids near the mouth.
  • Sun exposure: Protect the area from UV rays and apply SPF once healed.

Are you prone to cold sores?

If you have a history of fever blisters (cold sores), a lip tattoo needle can wake up the dormant virus. To prevent an outbreak, talk to a doctor about a prescription antiviral medication like Valtrex or acyclovir to start a few days before your session, and postpone your appointment if you have any active sores.

The 6 week follow-up:

A 6-week follow-up (or perfecting session) is needed because your lips fade by up to 60–70% and heal unevenly during the initial shedding and "ghosting" phases. This second appointment lets your artist fill in patchy spots, adjust color saturation, and fix symmetry.

Why the First Session Isn't Enough

  • Pigment Loss: Your body's immune response and skin turnover naturally reject a portion of the implanted ink.
  • The Ghosting Phase: Around weeks 2 to 3, a fresh layer of skin grows over the pigment, making the color look too light or temporarily disappear before it blooms back.
  • Uneven Healing: Different parts of the lip retain ink at different rates due to varying skin texture and movement

What Happens at the 6-Week Touch-Up

  • Color Correction: The artist can go darker, warmer, or cooler depending on how your natural undertones reacted.
  • Shape Refinement: Uneven borders or faded lip lines are sharpened.
  • Longevity: Adding a second layer locks the pigment in deeper, helping the final result last anywhere from 1 to 3 years
